Overview

Learn about applying circular economy principles in built environment projects and adapting business models to become more circular. Hear about the practical steps you can take to apply this concept to projects and business operations and gather examples of how this has been applied in reality and the lessons learned.

What to expect

A transition to a more circular built environment will require both pioneering projects and systemic change. At project level, implementing circular principles can help meet policy requirements, maximise resource efficiency, reduce carbon and create healthier and more sustainable places. From a business perspective, changing your business model and offer to be more circular represents a huge opportunity for engaging new markets, generating new revenue streams and making greater efficiencies.

This masterclass will consist of two sessions: 1) applying circular economy principles in built environment projects and 2) embedding circular thinking in business models. Participants will be introduced to opportunities to be more circular in their built projects, including some of the ‘easy wins’ and lessons learned from projects. They will then be taken through the first steps in leveraging this concept in their business operations and hear how it has been applied to a business. Delegates will have the chance to discuss strategies and challenges with the speakers and wider group through group exercises.

At the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of the core principles of circularity and practical strategies for achieving circular outcomes.

You will also have the chance to hear about the work that is being done in the UKGBC Circular Economy Programme to support clients in specifying for circular outcomes.
