Problem addressed

Construction and building industry companies are facing more pressure from the government as well as from their shareholders to be more sustainable. However implementing this can be complex and expensive. Therefore, the industry needs sustainable solutions that are lower cost as well as quick and easy to implement.

Overview of start-up

Cyanoskin is a living paint designed to absorb pollution, by utilising untapped building surfaces in mid and high-rise cityscapes. Once applied, the photosynthetic paint grows and thickens, allowing it to capture carbon dioxide in urban environments.

What makes the start-up innovative?

Cyanoskin offers cheap and effective carbon sequestration. Its application is meant to be extremely easy, unlike other alternatives which would require massive changes in the current operation of the buildings.

How the start-up has been designed to scale-up quickly

First, the algae Cyanoskin is rapidly produced and at a low cost. Moreover, Cyanoskin currently estimates it could absorb over 200kg/m2 annually, with 180,025,000 m2 available in London alone. This allows for over 36 million tonnes of CO2 to be absorbed yearly, in just one city!
